Now everybody and their dog, sister, brother, and neighbor are talking about Facebook these days.

Every Guru has a Facebook product.

But in the end Facebook really is just another traffic source.

An amazing one at that.

A boat load of traffic to your website.

Here are the basic fundamentals of getting traffic from FB ads.

FB is a demographic/psychographic marketer’s dream. And you have to go into it with that mindset.

If you put up an ad on FB and target the interest with keyword based searches, you are going to fail.

Here’s what I mean. On Google Search, “get your ex back” is probably a decent search phrase…

On FB it sucks. No one is going to put that search phrase in their likes and interests.

So you have to go back to knowing your customer and figure out who they are and what they like.

The “Scrapbooking and Crafts Market” is pretty solid at 18-45. And we’ll focus on the female side for this example.

That’s the demographic level.

You could target just that and see how it works and depending on how well the message resonates … you could do pretty well.

You could also target at the psychographic level…

Meaning what things/interests does your market have? Let’s see…

Other than Scrapbooking, 18-55 year old women like what?

  • Watching certain types of movies?
  • Martha Stewart?
  • Christian? LDS?
  • Homeschooling?

Starting to get the picture?

By going down to this level it lets you cater even more to that specific person.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say there is a new way of scrapbooking called “Sandy’s Patterning”. (making this up lol)

Now if you target that as an interest, you’ll be able to write ads like

That ad calls out to something someone is interested in right now and adds value to what she is thinking already.

Now you can go into so much detail with this … but you need to grasp the big picture that you can’t use keywords in the way normal

ppc marketers use them.

You HAVE TO approach it from a demographic and psychographic angle.

Once you have picked out several ways to target your customer, you need to actually make the ad.

FB ads consists of three main parts:

  • the picture
  • the headline
  • and the body

Of the three, the pic has the biggest influence on the response rate.

So you need pics that get looked at.

So you need pics that get looked at.

Remember men like to look at women. Duh! 🙂

And women like to look at women and children.

So women pictures work well … very well.

Try a lot of them and remember to vary the emotional feel. Just keep in mind that FB won’t let too much skin show or images that degrade the users … like pictures of fat flabby people.

Read their TOS and just try a bunch of stuff.

Remember, it’s easy as crap to test on Facebook.

Now once you have your ad up then remember that it’s best in the beginning to just pay for clicks.

I do not recommend paying for impressions.

You get to set your price. Always set it a bit below the Facebook recommendation.

You’ll get plenty of clicks don’t worry.

O.K there is a Basic Primer on using Facebook Ads.
